Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone with Shabby Apple Dresses

Shabby Apple Dress

Buying clothing after you have a baby can be a headache. It can take months for your body to settle into its new normal, so you do not want to rush our and buy a new wardrobe too soon, but you are tired of your maternity wardrobe and want some new clothes! I was feeling all kinds of frumpy during the past few months and am still in need of a fresh haircut, but I have been excited to start adding things to my wardrobe.

One problem I have the first year after having a new baby is that it can be hard to find dresses that I like that work will with nursing. I have a couple of crossover style dresses that work and one nursing dress, but I find that I tend to stick to two-piece ensembles the majority of the time I am nursing. When I had the opportunity to review an item for Shabby Apple, who specializes in vintage clothing, I found myself looking at some of the skirt samples they offered, because I can pair them easily with a top that works for nursing, but I found this dress with the button down front that caught my attention.

This Snapdragon print is not one that I would normally be drawn to, but there was something fun about it and the buttons in the front screamed “a dress I can nurse in that is not a nursing dress”! I was in between sizes so I sized up after glancing at the reviews and it was definitely the right move since I have broad shoulders and I do not think I would have been able to have the range of motion in my arms suitable for wrestling toddlers and carrying babies around.

I love the vintage vibe their dresses have and if I could choose any dress I wanted from their site I might have to go with their Estate houndstooth dress. I do not know what it is about their selection, but it inspires me to step a little out of my mommy comfort zone, which is a nice (almost liberating) feeling.

What do you look for in a dress when you are nursing or do you stick to two-piece emsembles?

That is a really cute dress! Would look nice with sandals or flip flops. I say that because it looks like a summer dress to me.

    • Yes, it is a very summery dress! If I recall it was rainy earlier that day (no surprise for western Washington), which I why I had boots on in the picture. :-)
