Simple Waterproof Toddler Smock ~Plus~ New Babyville Boutique Products #Giveaway

Babyville Boutique SmockIt is that time of the year again and Babyville Boutique has released fun, new prints and products. The pirate-themed prints and chevron stripes are welcome additions to their line of products, but my favorite new products may be the ruffled elastic and size tags! The ruffle elastic is soft and makes adorable, stretchy headbands in addition to being used as an embellishment for sewing projects. If you can sew a straight line you can make a handful of these in just a few minutes and they would make great gifts.

Babyville Smock SnapsA pattern I have been playing around with using the new fabrics is for a toddler smock. My two-year-old hates to wear a bib, but if you see his clothes after a meal it is clear he could still use one. He also needs one for craft time. It is nearly impossible to have age-appropriate art activities for my five-year-old without him wanting to get involved and we recently had some ruined clothes that fueled my mission to make an easy, but practical smock.

The Babyville Boutique PUL was the perfect material for this project, because they wipe or rinse clean for most projects and I can also use them at mealtime when necessary. It was also important to me to make it easy enough that a toddler could pull the smock over their head independently or with minimal assistance and the snaps on the sides make it much easier to put on than ties which are common for smocks.

I resisted the temptation to make the smock too involved, but decided to add a FOE binding to the neck for comfort and to give it a more finished look. I am still contemplating making the back panel identical to the front panel so that it is reversible, but the shorter back panel made it possible to make this from one Babyville cut of PUL! If you were using PUL by the yard or wanted to use two cuts of PUL the reversible option would be fantastic.

Keep an eye out for their new products the end of October at your favorite Babyville Boutique retailer!
