Montana Mountain Babes Knotty Hat Tutorial & Free Pattern Download

Finished copy

Today I am pleased to share a tutorial from my darling friend Darcy over at Montana Mountain Babes. We have a lovely collection of crocheted hats and clothing we have collected from her shop over the past couple of years and I even ordered an adorable fleece camo print pants and hat for my son for Christmas. A knotty hat is a great gift to make for a baby shower or for you own kiddos, and can be made relatively quickly if you are looking to make a last minute gift for the holidays or other occasion.

Make your own Mountain Babes Knotty Hat!

Follow this super quick and easy tutorial!

This is the perfect gift for anyone having a baby or for your own little ones. The pattern is made for my 0-6 month size, cut out smaller for newborn size or larger for 6-12 month.

1. Gather your materials

  • Any type of stretchy material knit jersey, fleece, minky, etc.
  • Scissors, pins, and template (download, print, tape two pages together and cut pattern)

2. Lay out folded fabric with right sides facing each other and pin on pattern. Cut out hat. You should have 2 of the same with wrong side of fabric on the outside. Pin on edges but leave opening at bottom.

3. Sew together with a ¼- ½ inch seam allowance. I am using an over lock machine but any sewing machine is fine.

4. Fold up about a 1½ inches and pin. Sew around the edge. You may use a straight stitch, zigzag or any other fancy stitch your machine might have. It should look like this after.

5. Flip inside out and tie knot at top. Super easy and quick!

Click here to download the pattern and be sure to show Darcy some love and stop by at her shop Montana Mountain Babes. If you do not sew, are pressed for time or just want to support a great mama you can buy a Montana Mountain Babes Knotty Hat and other goodies online.
