Holiday Gift Ideas: Something They Need

The “needs” may not seem as exciting to our kids as the “wants” underneath the tree, but it makes my holiday shopping a little easier and adds a dash of practicality to all of the gift giving. The gift ideas below are ones I have already purchased for my family or products that we love and would recommend that you add to your need or want wish list this season.

A. We have a number of step stools at home, but they are all a single step and my toddler still needs an extra boost to reach the bathroom sink. With my growing belly and his growing body it is getting less comfortable and convenient to have to pick him up and hold him so that he can reach the running water, so I decided my son’s need this Christmas would be a stepstool with two steps. The one I selected is a wooden stepstool made by Little Colorado and it is available in a number of different finishes as well as colored MDF (I chose a lovely honey oak finish). I opted not to get it personalized, but that is a fun feature many retailers offer for a small charge.

B. Clouds and Stars is a company I fell in love with during my second pregnancy and a set of crib sized organic QuickZip sheets were one of my favorite splurges for my son. I will confess I was not on top of washing my daughter’s crib sheets as much as I would have liked, because it was so bothersome to get the sheets on and off. I am proud to say that my son’s crib sheets were changed much more frequently! They also make larger sheets and I have also loved the twin size set we use for my daughter as it is a heaven send for those overnight accidents toddlers, preschoolers or even older children often have at night.

C. Although our third addition still has a few more months to “bake”, the need I have been stocking up on for her are additional newborn diapers. I had a small stash with my son which I supplemented with one size diapers, but the one size diapers just seemed bulky for the first couple of months and I always grabbed for my newborn diapers first. This time around I intend to double my stash with some favorites as well as new brands. One of the diapers I loved for my son was the XS Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size cloth diaper. I only had one of these, but it had a roomy newborn size range, washed well and dried quickly so I have gotten five or six more to use come March.

D. Another need I would recommend that our family has enjoyed for our hallway and nursery is the MOBI Wallmate nightlight. They are available in adorable animal shapes, use LED bulbs that do not need to be replaced every couple of months, and they have a light sensor so they go on automatically when the room is dark! No more stumbling through the dark to find the nightlight switch when you forget to turn it on before the lights go out. My only wish would be that you could change the intensity of the light, which would make it perfect in my eyes, but the light features three colors (red, blue, green) as well as a rainbow mode, which provide some variation in brightness.

Affiliate links may be used for select products mentioned aboved. A sample was received from MOBI, but all of the gift ideas and opinions are my own.

FB XS were my favorite too :) plus, they’re SO cute!

    • In general I like the idea of the ease of all-in-ones, but I really liked the XS FB as well. I got a couple of girly colors for the new ones I ordered and can’t wait to use them and have more than one in my newborn rotation!
