I am still trying to decide if 4 years or 48 months sounds better to me. Most moms will understand the excitement of a new milestone, but the denial that so much time and memories have already passed. My baby is four years old and I have been a mother for four years. In some ways it seems like it is so much longer than that, and that I have always been a mother with her in my life.
My daughter is a nurturer. She loves to help with her little brother and also take care of her dolls and animals by dressing them, feeding them and tending to them when they are “sick”. She often likes to fill mama a cup of water and set it on the table just in case I get thirsty, or place a pillow under Daddy’s head when they are playing on the floor so he can relax.
She is an observer. She is not one to jump in and try something new without watching intently at how it is done or practicing it at her own pace. She wants to get it right and she wants to understand how it works. She also loves to watch my husband and I and mirror the things that we do (keeps us on our toes!).
She is a great listener (most of the time). But honestly, for her age she does a really great job, especially when she is with peers. I am always so proud when I see or hear about her following directions even when she is the only one.
She is a snuggler. Whenever I need a hug or snuggle on the couch, she is right there next to me or on my lap. She has always loved to be by my side from my babywearing days– but grows in her independence and self confidence as I continue to watch from a close distance.
She loves to pick her outfits, decorate her room, be a ballerina or princess, and “get fancy” with chapstick or accessories. She is a girly girl that can still keep up with the boys and stretches and she is a teacher who challenges me daily to reach my potential as a mother. Happy birthday to our Princess!
