‘Tis the Season for Gobbling Up Goodies & Giving Gifts

Annie's Eats Gingerbread Cookies

We enjoyed a beautiful Veteran’s Day yesterday and the weather was suddenly warmer than it has been and it got up to around 70 degrees! So yesterday was clearly an exception since it has been cooling down quite a bit where it’s in the 50s and 60s most days and significantly colder over night. The leaves are falling, Christmas music has started playing on the radio and I have started making holiday gift lists (although I am far from finishing this, and it is only the first step!). Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the eating, parties and baking will likely continue until the New Year.

This year the holidays also mean forming family traditions as my kids grow older and wondering how the heck we are going to make my little guy’s Christmas Day birthday feel super special year after year. Luckily, this year he won’t really know or care, but I still think about it. One tradition I am still trying to get started is to make some handmade gifts and decorations every year, but the weeks in November and December just fly by before I get around to it. I did make a dozen or so jars of homemade hot chocolate last year that I put into canning jars with cute fabrics on top, so I have to give myself a little credit– but the hand sewn gifts for family never seem to get finished. I guess I was in my last weeks of pregnancy and dragging my feet last year, so that was my excuse, but I don’t have that one to use this year! We baked holiday cookies last year and I want to add a gingerbread house to the to-do list this year now that my daughter is a little older. What are your favorite holiday traditions?

In honor of the season of giving and eating, I have a little giveaway from a handful of companies as we enter this holiday season. The prize will consist of some free product or dollar off coupons, organic food resources, organic snack samples, a reusable water bottle, snack cup and I will also be including the Moosewood Restaurant Farm Fresh Meals Deck: 50 Delicious Recipes for Every Season to inspire your holiday cooking. One of the sponsors is babycenter and if you haven’t checked out their Easy Organic Living group that started this year, check it out online and join in on discussions with like-minded parents.

Win it!

Giveaway items provided by babycenter, Stonyfield, Cascadian Farms, other Easy Organic Living sponsors and me.

Our favorite tradition is the kids opening one gift on Christmas Eve. It is always new pj’s and a new movie so they can get cozy and watch a movie while me and my hubby finish up last minute wrapping. The food that comes to mind is Chocolate Cupcakes with Peppermint frosting, which I make every Christmas.
