At bedtime, singing is a big part of our routine. But what do you do when they want you to sing their favorite upbeat tune when it’s time to wind down? I usually soften the volume, slow it down and make my own bedtime remix of her favorite tunes for my daughter. Baby Blanket Music’s new CDs reminded me of this, as they take top songs by well-loved artists and “soften it down” with what I like to refer to as “music box instrumentation”. These CDs are a great way to bring in a caretaker’s favorite tunes into the nursery not only to pass on your beloved melodies and artists to your little one, but also to make the music in your nursery as enjoyable as what you would play in the rest of your home.
I was able to review the Billy Joel CD, which I was thrilled to do, since I enjoy his music and I think that his song “Goodnight My Angel” is one of the best songs ever written. If you are not familiar with this lullaby you will want to give it a listen! It is a sweet lullaby that is full of a parent’s love and speaks of the power of a lullaby– that lullabies “go on and on” and are passed down even after we pass away. Although I have always enjoyed this song it has a new, more powerful meaning to me now that I am a mother.
Other CDs they have released include John Mayer, Elton John and Simon & Garfunkel. I grew up with my father listening to Simon & Garfunkel so this is another of the CDs I would love to add to my collection. I think that passing on music we love and music that has meaning to us is as special as any gift you can pass on to your child, because it will stay with them long after the once cherished toys are outgrown or broken.
