So my first experience with swings wasn’t a positive one and I may have given up completely, until I visited my in-laws when my daughter was about 6.5 months old for a 10-day trip. My mother-in-law had borrowed baby gear from friends while we stayed with them, and one was a swing that also turned and swayed. Needless to say, against all odds my daughter took almost all of her naps in this swing as long as it was in the sway position rather than the swing position. And that was the key. She loved to be held and rocked, and the swaying motion of the swing must have been more soothing to her or maybe it was more similar to the way it felt to be rocked in my arms. It was at that time that I took a note in my head that I had to get a similar swing for our next child.
When I was selected to be one of the 14 Bloggers to participate in this event and saw the 4 new Bright Starts products from which I could choose, the swing immediately caught my eye. Although my daughter is out of the generous weight range for this product, we constantly have little visitors come over and nowhere to put the infants while our toddlers play together. I also have 6 girlfriends who are expecting between April and August and we are looking at adding another little one to our family this year, so I know this will be a permanent fixture in our home as my friends continue to have their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, even 6th child!
I have had a couple testers come over the past couple of weeks and many (including some of my expectant friends) are eager to bring their little ones over to test out the swing in the coming weeks and months to get some much needed mom-to-mom time with the hustle and bustle of having a new baby. I assembled this swing myself and it didn’t take more than half an hour, which included my toddler helping. If I turned the screw once, she got a turn. If I clicked two parts together, she found something else to do to “help” put the swing together. The whole time saying OOoo mommy, wasss dat?
I love that there are so many speed settings, a timer with 3 choices and both music and nature sounds. Even when visitors aren’t over my daughter asks to play the music or tries to push the buttons to make the nature sounds go on, and dolls and other soft friends are placed inside and swung side to side like our little friends. My daughter is over 30 lbs. now and has always been off the charts in growth, but I let her give the swing a quick try when I first put it together as she begged to give it a try and again today. I couldn’t get her out of it for half an hour. I was surprised that it still swung even with her weight and stayed right by her side to make sure she wasn’t doing any damage to the swing or putting herself in any danger (don’t try this at home moms 😉 )
I love how soft the material is and the neutral fabric will fit into any decor. The controls are user-friendly and just high enough that infant and some toddler hands can’t reach. The battery life that the new Ingenuity line boasts is a heaven-send and I will be sure to write a follow up review later this year to let you know how the batteries are lasting and how my new and regular infant and newborn visitors take to it or which sway motion ends up being the biggest hit. Then, of course, whenever baby #2 happens I will let you know is s/he is a swinger or a swayer. I also love the ability to change swinging motions, because not only will it will work for the preference of different children, but you can also create variety for your little one. And did I mention that it moves 180 degrees in 3 different positions, so you can also change the direction your little one is facing as they swing depending where the action is at that particular time? Awesome.
All in all I am thrilled with the comfort, ease of use, battery life, and versatile nature of this product. The straps are highly adjustable so you will be able to fit even the chunkiest baby at the maximum weight range (25 lbs.) with the fluffiest cloth diaper on and it should still secure them in without a problem. After all, I got the belt strapped over my 30+ lb. daughter and her fluff just fine. My only criticism is that I would want the option of an AC adapter in addition to the long battery life and would enjoy having a few more song and nature sounds to choose from. Better yet, they could create a USB or AUX plug-in so you can play songs or familiar melodies of your choice. That would take this product to an even higher level!
