Knit wraps such as Sleepywraps can be worn through the toddler years, but I recommend them the most for the first year of life. Sleepywrap recommends them from 0-18 months and it will really depend on how tall or heavy your child is as they reach the toddler years. When worn on the front of the body, it serves as an external womb of sorts, keeping baby close to your heart, skin and snugly swaddled. Although there is a learning curve with learning how to wrap it (and the variations depending on if your preference), you will get the swing of it quickly. In addition, if you are a visual learner you can see pictures and YouTube videos online. When your baby is a newborn or young infant I would recommend that you keep the wrap on during the day so you can pop them in an out without having to re-tie it over and over again, as you will use it more frequently during the early months.
The Sleepywrap, although similar to other knit wraps you may have used is made of a slightly different material. When putting the wrap on, do not leave room for you little one, as it is stretchy and will be way too loose if you do. This would not be comfortable for you back or for baby. They have lovely directions here if you have any questions, but if I can figure it out anyone can. The knit of this fabric is tight and the stretch doesn’t start to sag after extended use, which makes it more supportive than many knit fabrics or wraps on the market. The fabric can also be spread wide for ultimate back support and distribution over the shoulders. Oh and you know what else? This is super easy to wash. Just pop it in with the rest of your baby clothes and you’re done. No buckles or metal to worry about ruining or getting caught on other things.
Sleepywraps are comfortable, durable and one of the essentials that should be on your baby shower or shopping list. Wearing your baby soothes babies and can keep your stress level down as well when they are happy, secure and you have your hands free. You may only wear some of those 3 month outfits you get them a time or two, but will get daily use and maintain some sanity and peace by wearing your little one close! Classic Sleepywraps are available in 12 colors, however, 2 Organic Sleepywrap colors are also available.
