Pomegranates are a “super fruit” we are seeing more and more of in the kitchen, used in soaps and body lotions, and you’ve probably seen POM Wonderful at the grocery store’s refrigerated section as well. Packed with antioxidants, POM Wonderful is also a good source of potassium, is gluten-free, kosher and has absolutely no added sugars, preservatives or colors. This is a juice you can feel great about stocking in your fridge.
Although slightly tart to drink on its own in large quantities, it lends itself beautifully to cooking and beverages. Our favorite self-concocted recipe using POM Wonderful was in some smoothies we made as a family. We substituted POM Wonderful for apple juice and it was delicious! My husband is still talking about it. I even like to take small swigs of it from time to time, but I also mix it with sparkling water for a smoother, more subtle taste. It is pretty tart, but the good thing is that you don’t guzzle down the calories either, because a small portion is satisfying.
POM Wonderful is also a fantastic ingredient to add flavor, color and antioxidant power in your cooking. From POM Velvet Cupcakes with POM Cream Cheese Frosting to Sage Roasted Turkey Breast with POM Butter and Manchego Cheese, you will be surprised at its countless applications. I would definitely like to try the other flavors they have available and to make some of the recipes they have on their website including the two I mentioned above and a POM reduction sauce. Although I only reviewed the original Pomegranate version, it is also available in blueberry, cherry, mango, kiwi and nectarine. My mouth is watering as I type out these flavors!
