The Mama Cloth Event has Begun

Today is the beginning of the Mama Cloth Event here at TCDR and I hope to introduce you to some new brands, if you are currently using cloth, or challenge you to start in 2010! I will be hosting some fantastic giveaways, coupon codes and will also be writing articles on my experiences and research as I have started using mama cloth this fall. This new section on my blog will be a permanent addition, so I hope to continue to review products and write articles as I discover new brands or products relating to this topic.

If you are hesitant to try mama cloth my challenge to you for the new year would be to use cloth liners. This is the easiest way to incorporate cloth into your life with minimal work and maintenance. You will still be saving money and minimizing your eco-footprint, plus they come in super cute colors and designs and can be washed with your other underwear. If you are a part-time user, try to go full time, and if you’re already a full time user check out some new brands and products to fluff up your stash! I am only reviewing cloth pads and liners during this event, but hope to have the chance to review tampon alternatives in the near future. If you currently use a tampon alternative or decide to try it for the new year, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

I did not even know about mama cloth until I started cloth diapering and although I was intrigued swore I would never use it. My only thoughts were: yuck. I have always been a tampon girl and even disposable pads made me shutter. But the more I got involved in cloth diapering and the different ways to wash, disinfect or treat stains I started to get curious about it again. I also wondered if I could get a sense of the materials I was using on my daughter by using mama cloth made of the same materials myself.

After a few months of full time mama cloth I can tell you that mama cloth is FAR better than their disposable alternatives. They are softer and although slightly bulkier, there are a variety of fabrics and thicknesses to choose from to cater to your needs. I still am very interested in trying tampon alternatives for a fresher feeling during those days of the month, but had a much more positive experience with mama cloth than I would have ever expected! Keep up with my articles the next week to read more about my experiences and the different products I was able to review!

I'm so glad you're doing this! It's the next logical step for those who cloth diaper–use cloth for ourselves! I got some from etsy and I love them, and they are much less gross than I thought they'd be :) Hopefully lots of people see this and try it out!
