I love pouch slings for quick trips into the supermarket or up the stairs to a friend’s apartment, when I need the added security while having a hand or two free. There is no need to adjust it and it doesn’t slip out place as your little one wiggles around. One of the down sides of this style, however, has been that it was a one-user item that couldn’t be easily shared between parents, family or other caregivers. Many women also may have needed slightly different sizes while pregnant or after losing all their baby weight.
Well Hotslings has solved the limitations of the pouch sling with the new Hotslings AP (adjustable pouch). As you can see in the picture above there are two straps (which have cloth “pockets” to cover them, but they are exposed in this picture to highlight this feature) allowing the sling to be adjusted from sizes 2-5 and everything in between. It is also designed so that there is no longer the need to fold the pouch in half before putting it over your shoulder and is sewn into place.
In addition the Hotslings AP come with a coordinating carry pouch, has added padding for baby and comes in new, more compact packaging. I loved my sized Hotslings pouch, but you can’t beat all the upgrades of the new AP. The only thing I will miss is the clean lines of the classic pouch slings as this will have some folding where it is adjusted, but still won’t have yards of fabric in the way like a ring sling.
Overall Rating: 9.5
Overall Fit: 9.5
97% Cotton, 3% Spandex
Shoulder: Shoulder fabric is wide, supportive and stays in place with less need for adjustment.
Back: Great for short-term use or with small infants, but this style of sling may cause some strain with extended wear with older/heavier infants or toddlers.
Waist/Hips: Pouch slings do not have any buckles or support for the waist and hips, but it is comfortable for the hip carry. This is my preferred carry using a pouch sling with older infants and toddlers.
On Baby: My daughter was never big on the cradle carry, but loved the Kangaroo and hip carries. So the sling is comfy, but each child/caregiver will have their own preferences for the carry they like best.
