When I was pregnant I spent countless hours reading books, websites and magazines searching for all of my baby essentials. These are all the mainstreamed materials that are essentially advertisements for the major corporate companies that manufacture baby products. I thought that Desitin must have been the diaper creme to use, because I saw the most ads for it. Then I began finding more natural alternatives after my baby was born and the realized how many products don’t get the mainstream attention they deserve! The ingredients used in a product tell me more about how much a company really cares about my little one than a full page ad any day.
The Homestead Company is a natural skin care company that not only has a baby line, but spa and skin products for mom. The Foot Spa gift set is on my wish list this winter and I would love to try their alcohol-free witch hazel both for me and for my DD’s cloth wipes solution. I had the opportunity, however, to review some of their baby care products including their Baby Wipe Companion Concentrate, Diaper Rash Oil, Baby Wipe Companion and Baby Balm.
I have been using the Baby Wipe Companion Concentrate in my cloth wipes solution mixed with plain water and also with added Maggie’s Liquid Soapnuts. Both solutions worked well and the second solution smelled fantastic together plus the soapnuts added a cleansing soap to the mix that is good for skin. You can also use the concentrate to make your own Baby Wipe Companion refills and save money by buying in bulk and by mixing it yourself! They also sell alcohol-free witch hazel which can be mixed with the concentrate and water. The travel size Baby Wipe Companion I reviewed was the perfect size to throw in the diaper bag as it is small, but they also sell a 4 oz. size to keep in the nursery. All of the essential oils smell refreshing on baby’s bottom and they have been carefully selected to be the best for her as well. It is available in both lavendar and orange/eucalyptus scents.
The Diaper Rash Oil and Baby Balm are meant to both treat existing rash and to serve as a barrier to protect against it. And guess what? I LOVE multitaskers and the Diaper Rash Oil and Baby Balm are also great on cuts and scrapes, because it is antibacterial, as well as on cold sores. Luckily my DD didn’t have a severe rash while we reviewed this product, but I would like to think that these products may have helped avoid that! She is crazy about fruit, but her skin is pretty sensitive if she has too many acidic foods in her diet, so having a natural barrier (that the skin absorbs) is a great preventative step for us. And DD always asks for creme, so it must feel nice!
