I wouldn’t recommend pouch slings for a hike or a whole day of babywearing as your child gets older, because although they help distribute the weight better than many slings, it will still throw your body out of balance after extended wearing. I think a pouch sling is a must-have item though, and I personally own a number of different kinds of carriers for different baby stages and for different purposes.
The sling was comfortable and the non-stretch nature of the silk and cotton fabric on my sling gave me more support with my 30 lb. chunky monkey. I would love the stretch cotton fabrics for younger infants though but this was a good fit for me and my older child. This sling was reversible, so I could choose to expose the silk or burgundy colored cotton. I LOVE the padded section to go under DD’s thighs and know that she is comfotable as she bounces along on my hip. The luxurious pattern of the sling made me feel stylish, trendy and I stood a little taller as a result. There’s nothing like feeling pretty as a mama when your wardrobe usually consists of jeans and T-shirts accessorized with juice stains and food spills on your jeans.
Overall Fit: 8.5
Varies on style purchased, but varies from a cotton stretch to organic/hemp stretch to silk.
Wide fabric encompasses a wide portion the shoulder making it pretty comfortable.
Comfortable with younger/lighter children or for shorter periods of time with older/heavier children. Although it does a pretty good job distributing the weight, I would recommend a backpack or mei tai style carrier for longer trips and heavier children.
Does not fasten around the waist or hips. In reference to the hip carry, child can be comfortably worn on the hips when they are old enough and stable enough, and this is the carry I most commonly use with a pouch style sling.
Keeps baby’s knees even with hips, which is optimal for their spines. The cushioned thigh padding also seems to make it comfy for baby.
Birth – 35 lbs.
Hotslings uses the highest quality cottons and silks so these will last you for years to come.
