Backpack

Backpack style carriers are getting more popular for their convenience and heavier duty support for baby and wearer. Buckles are typically used so the wearer does not have to knot anything and as a result there is less extra fabrics or straps to deal with. Backpack carriers are typically more padded and have better back and lumbar support for the wearer.

Pros: A LOT of back and lumbar support which was a life saver for me, because I have had back problems in the past combined with a heavy, clingy baby. The buckles make it easy to put on, yet highly adjustable to different waist sizes and heights. I highly recommend this style for extended use and for heavier or older children.

Cons: Bulkier than other styles of carriers so take a little more room to take in a diaper bag or on the go. Some would be too bulky to even take in a diaper bag. They also may not be a conducive to newborns or a separate insert/adapter may need to be purchased for young infants.
