Thursday Thoughts

So I have decided to jump start this “column” that I mentioned earlier this week. I decided on the title to keep it broad as it will be a grab bag. It may be inspiration, advice, thoughts, pictures and I am also open to answering questions (email me at emi@theclothdiaperrepot.com). It will be something a little different each week and we will build its subject matter together as you comment and give feedback. So for our first week I will share a quote:

“The great composer does not set to work because he is inspired, but becomes inspired because he is working. Beethoven, Wagner, Bach and Mozart settled down day after day to the job in hand with as much regularity as an accountant settles down each day to do his figures. They didn’t waste time waiting for inspiration.” – Ernest Newman

I first connected to this quote as a musician, however, realized its application to all professions. It is a reminder to me that we can be inspired everyday in the things we do. Whether you work 9-5, work overtime as a SAHM, mold your children as you encourage and teach them or leave footprints in people’s lives as you befriend them. It is these everyday routines and events that set us up for great things, as mundane as they may seem at times. It is while we are actually living, rather than waiting, that we can feel fulfilled and the most beautiful things in life are born.
