Velcro vs. Snaps

The two most popular methods of securing cloth diapers are with velcro and snaps. There are pros and cons to both, and I recommend having both in your stash– the number of each kind you own will depend on your needs. I personally own more snap closures than velcro, but regularly use my velcro diapers as well. Although I have a few reasons why I have chosen to do this, the main reason is that I want the diapers to last through multiple kids and still look (and function) great.

Velcro is quick to put on and the most similar to disposals in this respect, however, shows wear and tear quickly and often snags on other things in the dryer. Depending on the age and build of your baby, velcro often rubs on their tummys when they are still learning to sit up and aren’t fully stable.

Snaps take a little more practice to fine-tune a snug, leak-proof fit, but are durable and more toddler-proof than velcro. Some have 4 snaps of each side (Happy Heinys) and others have 2 snaps on each side (Fuzzi Bunz).

I have also recently discovered the Wahmies one-size diapers that use S hooks. These have the durability of snaps and the adjustability of velcro. These are the only diapers my DD cannot take off as a toddler as she even mastered taking velcro diapers off under her clothes.

Most of my diapers are velcro and I find the velcro wears quickly..plus little man can get some of the off himself. THe snaps work great for night times since my little man moves lots in his sleep and can cause the velcro to loosen. Thanks for your comparaison review.

I thought I'd love velcro Now I hate it! BUt it makes up most of my stash…never thought of s hooks…are they safe can the baby get them off and choke on them?
